Kristin, I'm dismissing this report as a poor source of information: It's political propaganda, not peer-reviewed results from scientific research. We have seen in the USA how political lies trump scientific results. US statistical research results show that 70% of the immigrants apprehended for deportation in the past year have had no previous criminal convictions; only 8% had a violent or property-crimes conviction, and only 5% had a violent criminal conviction (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_and_crime). Yet Trump has managed to convince 57% of people in the US that this population has a higher violent crime rate than whites. If Trump removed every immigrants from the US, then the US crime rate would be higher. That is the science of it. Using political propaganda based on bogus reports, Trump's MAGA movement and the Republican Party have convinced a majority of the US that immigrant communities are dangerous to white people. I wonder if Reform UK are doing something similar with south Asians. Personally, I have worked and lived with south Asians for over four decades. Tonight I am going to a Solstice party hosted by south Asian immigrants in Portland. Asian Indians are the 3rd largest ethnic group where I live. Asian/Pacific Islanders have a crime and incarceration rate that is 1/3 of the average statewide rate for arrest and incarceration. The Portland, Oregon metropolitan area has about 50,000 Indians and Pakistanis. This was planned: Starting in the 70s, Intel developed a way to bring Asian Indian tech workers through Canada to Portland in a scheme to skirt US immigration restrictions. This global company wanted to grow faster by hiring from a global labor pool rather than just the US, where the competition was fierce for engineers. Back then, a pissed-off engineer could tell their company to fuck off, leave their badge at reception, and find a job the next day, probably earning more: There were too many jobs for too few engineers back then. Intel and the US stock market benefited from tech immigration, as did the entire industry, which was doing the same thing as Intel. Among the losers were India and Pakistan. South Asians in US tech, medicine, science, etc. are a different class of south Asians that Reform UK are persecuting. My tech friends are not victimized by the police; if they were, they could afford good lawyers. The best way to ensure your rights in a capitalist country like the US and UK is to pay for it. So it's nearly impossible to keep a guilty but wealthy person in jail, and it is nearly impossible to get an innocent but poor person out of jail once the system put them there. I suspect the south Asian community under attack by Reform UK are more like the type of immigrants in the US who ICE is snatching from their families, imprisoning, sickening, and sometimes killing. This type of immigrant is not like the south Asian CEOs of Alphabet/Google, IBM, Microsoft, Adobe, etc. These folks are working class; some of the most highly exploited and poorly paid working people in the country. I'm not talking about the rapists, alleged or real, but the vast majority of the community who will suffer so somebody can get elected. Just like the Ohio Somalis. I think the banker/businessman/Brexiteer/proto-fascist politician behind the Gang Inquiry Report is exploiting a social issue to galvanize a violent white mob.
