As I pointed out before, responses on this list to this report have almost entirely avoided the central issue: Whether this report is accurate or not. I asked a young friend/comrade of mine who keeps up with youth culture, among other things. This is somebody who also has experience with the seamier side of life. He was telling me that the whole issue of selling one's body for sex has become widely acceptable among young people. And given the "monetization" (really commodification) of everything, why not? It also is related to the issue of finding well paid steady employment. This is also connected with online culture. He mentioned to me a young woman he knows who recently graduated with a degree in biochemistry who couldn't find a job in her field and started advertising on "Fans only", a site I'd never heard of but is quite popular for those looking for sex for hire. My friend told me that about a year later this young woman had paid cash for a $1.3 million house!
Now, when everything including "friendship" is for sale, why wouldn't this be widely acceptable, especially among very young people? Some young nobody who can talk fast and has no scruples whatsoever can go online, become an "influencer" and make millions of dollars producing absolutely nothing of use value. So, if you can do that, why not do the same by selling sex? I asked my friend about these supposed Muslim groomers. He told me that he "knows for a fact" that it's not only Muslims but also people from various different nonwhite immigrant communities. In other words, you have communities living on the margins of society, some of whose members are making a living doing whatever they can. And this mixes with the commodification of sex. (My friend also told me that there is a popular rap genre that glorifies all of this, including pimping.) Then, on top of that we have a social service industry that ignores the needs of the most oppressed of children. This includes both government agencies and the nonprofiteers. The problem is that we are dealing with some pretty complex issues in a political world where most people are looking for simplistic and often racist or nationalist explanations and "solutions". Socialists do themselves and the working class no favors by sticking their heads in the sand. John Reimann -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
