The left is split on this issue, and there are other issues as well. Ukraine vs 
Russia, Identity vs class struggle politics, China vs Taiwan, etc. So the 
question is what kind of organization can unite a disparate left on topics 
where we agree rather than seeking complete programmatic unity?

You mentioned James P. Cannon in an earlier note, Marv. I read a great deal of 
what he wrote and spoke. But the party he played such a big role in building 
rotted from the inside. National secretaries lasted a long time in the party 
that Cannon built: Cannon for about 15 years; Dobbs for 19 years; Barnes for 
over half a century. 

He build a party that favored entrenched leadership and an internal political 
discipline that spun off dissident factions.
