I had thought that the capitalists might bring Trump down. It's true that he's been good for profits in the short term, but a lot of his policies have been very damaging to them. First and foremost is his tariffs. Also, they do not like his policy regarding Europe. Nor do they like having to pay him every time they want to carry out normal business procedures like corporate mergers. But for one thing, the lure of big immediate profits is too great. I also think we have seen what could be called the lumpenization of the capitalist class. In the 1960s in the Kennedy era, for example, they actually believed in their system. Nowadays, with the declining rate of profits in actual production vs. speculation, I think the attitude of each man or woman for themself vs. looking out for the system as a whole has become stronger. So it seems to me that they will not act decisively unless or until there is a mass movement from below that really threatens them. Possibly if there is an all out crisis they could, but there seems to be very little signs of it.
