Thanks for the input. I agree that ping is not the
best way to test, but, at least with traceroute I get
some hop times-what is important to keep consistent
between machines is the site that I am doing the
testing to, and the means that I am testing the
connection by.
What is interesting to me is that the hops for the
machine directly connected to modem (analog) were much
faster and after keeping the connection up for a
while, I started to see numbers in the 50ms range.
from the masqed boxes. I figure that it was a routing
issue (tables needed to be updated?).
