No, I'am running SLIP over a non-TCPIP cablemodem. (VPN? what does
that mean?)

yep

filtering? well my box is listening to port 113...

Apperently this line in netstat has nothing to do with my problem.

Really small messages *ARE* being send (like empty messages with
subject 'test'). When sending bigger messages, like this one, my win95 email client
connects to the SMTP server, logs on, sends the message header and
then sends the message text. When the progress bar reaches 100% when
sending the message text, it just keeps sitting their, waiting.

I tried to apply the masq-mtu patch but I think it is already
incorporated in 2.0.35. My local net has an MTU of 1500 and my
cableconnection a MTU of 1400.

When I tried to send this message 'ipfwadm -M -l' returned :
tcp  14:57.64 192.168.0.2          ns1.casema.net       1130 (61042) -> smtp

When I tried to send a different message 'ipfwadm -M -l' returned :
tcp  13:52.44 192.168.0.2          ns1.casema.net       supfiledbg (61039) -> smtp

Both messages where *NOT* send due to the problem listed above. Does
anybody have an idea where the problem is? I thank you for your time
spend looking into this problem. It is much appreciated because I am
really clueless. Is there a checklist anywhere so I can run by it to
see if I am overlooking something?

Addendum
One of my roomates is connected in the same way to my linux box and
uses hotmail for his email messages. He's got the same problem.
Sending small messages is no problem but when he tries to send a
bigger message Netscape responds with : "connection reset by peer".
Does this help?

Greetz,

Pimmus.
