If you are reading this it worked!!! Some time ago when I was setting
up my linux box I called my ISP for the MTU number and they said I
should use 1400. I have never questioned that figure altough I have
tried to set the MTU of our local net from 1500 to 1400, but that
didn't correct the problem.
Maybe it's because I use an older serial port, a 16450, and it can't
handle a MTU of 1400? What are common setting for MTU of a modem? I
want to try a greater MTU setting to improve performance. Now I use
864 for the MTU setting. Also, I couldn't find anything on MRU
settings, so I don't know hom to change them. I use diald to setup the
slip connection at 864. Then Ethernet connection is setup in my rc
files with ifconfig and I also set the MRU of eth0 to 864.
Once again Thanks very very much for your swift reply's. And I am
sorry I couldn't reply much earlier (Most likely you don't remember
the problem by now). Thanks anyway, I was really clueless!
Greetz,
Pimmus.
