>554 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>... Service unavailable

This means that the remote email server isn't running.
I did a little research and one of their email servers
is hypermetropia.dds.nl. If I TELNETed to port 25,
(Thursday, 3/4/99, 5:50 PST) it would connect and then
eventually allowed me to send mail to it. I then tried
later to test this and there server was DOWN. So, I
think the problem might be on their end.

Anyway, try this test as well to test your mail connections:

1) Run nslookup and get get all of the machines that are
   mail exchangers for that domain

2) TELNET to port 25 of a given MX server

[dranch@trinity2 dranch]$ nslookup
Default Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1

> set q=mx
> dds.nl
Server: localhost

Non-authoritative answer:
dds.nl preference = 50, mail exchanger = hyperkeratosis.dds.nl

Dip is very old and I beleive it isn't supported anymore. Diald
recently got a new maintainer and is VERY configurable. Its just a
matter of tuning it for your needs. Your choice but I always
recommend Diald.
