Hello,
I have a lan that I want to hook up to the net through a linux gateway. the
linux box connects to the internal lan through eth0 and the external internet
on eth1 (through cablemodem). eth0 and eth1 are two separate nics. the
internal lan seems fine in that all hosts can ping all other hosts. the link
between eth1 and the cable modem is up. however, i
can't get eth1 to show an external ip address (as shown by ifconfig).
I'm following the masquerade-howto and i am using redhat 6.0. I know what the
problem is, but don't
know how to fix it. the how-to says:
"Two: On the MASQ server itself, ping then internal IP address of the MASQ
network (i.e. ping 192.168.0.1). Now Then ping the external IP address
connected to the Internet. This address might be your PPP, Ethernet, etc.
address connected to your ISP. If you don't know what this IP address is, run
the Linux command "/sbin/ifconfig" on the MASQ server to get the Internet
address. This will confirm that the MASQ server has full network connectivity."
my MASQ server doesn't have "full network connectivity", but the hardware link
is good and i've done everything that the how-to called for.
