Hi,

atm I'm struggeling to get the gstreamer-output (with no MH involvement) to something reasonable, eg. using a command like

gst-launch -e v4lsrc device=/dev/videoX ! ffenc_mpeg2video ! mpegpsmux ! filesink location=test.mpg

"Funny" (no, it is not funny) thing is, that "sometimes" the output is just
fine; you can never say when the output of the command (eg. using xvfilesink) "breaks", ie. switches from delivering nice results to miserable results.

We currently consider to migrate to Ubuntu 10.10 and see if the problem still occurs there.

Some weird question: do you think there is a possibility, that Ubuntu thinks the USB-port connecting the epiphan is a USB1.0-port because we might have a mouse on the same bus? Just guessing.

Greetings, Andreas

Hi

Oh, sorry that didn't work. I wonder if it's you OS? We run Ubuntu 10.10 with no issues. Driver is the same as yours though. Check your kernel versions perhaps. Otherwise I am blank :)

Hope that helps!

Cheers

Hi Lovemore,

no, that doesnt solve the issue. Actually I first installed 1.1, then
discovered the bad epiphan recording quailty, then tried the
gst-launch commands to no better avail, then went back to 1.0 hoping
things were causes by 1.1 :) Which apprently they weren't.

I thought someone else might have had similar issues and could help me
out.

Hi

Would you consider upgrading to version 1.1? At least test it and see
if that will solve the issue.

Good luck

Dear people,

this day we discovered, that gstreamer (and thus matterhorn) delivers
bad results on one of our machines (at least I hope its only this
machine). We run MH 1.0 on Ubuntu 10.4 LTS
and have the vga2usb-3.24.8.4-2.6.32-25-generic-x86_64.tbz epiphan
drivers
loaded.

gst-launch pipelines sometimes work very good for some seconds (might
be like 3 seconds, or even 20 seconds, but inevitably and
suddenly at some point (there is no pattern as far as I can see) stop
to work and deliver new frames only every 5 seconds if at all.

Processing power is at 1%, and the gst-launch does not show up in the
list, as soon as the pipeline "breaks?".

What might be the culprit? The drivers? Broken epiphan device?

Sorry to bother you again; things are getting thight here atm, we need

to get things up and running robust asap.

Greetings, Andreas
