I'm thinking the default config for the epiphan device is to use dhcp. Do you have a cheap broadband router with a dhcp server on it laying around? Alternatively you could load a dhcp server on your pc.

Actually it is just connected to a switch and the only other endpoint is the
pc. So whitelisting should not be necessary.
Regarding the LEDs: The network port shows two bright LEDs (green+orange). On
the other (IN-)side, only the middle LED (green) lights up.

I got the MAC address from Epiphan - but that doesn't help without
seeing it on the network, right?

Any further comments are welcome.

The network discovery tool should work if the device is hooked up such
that it should end up on the same subnet as the machine doing the
scanning. Are there two lights lit on the device (red and green)?

At our institution we have to whitelist MACs connecting to the wired
network. Before I whitelist a device it doesn't show up in the scan
because it's on a completely different network. Is your institute the same?

1. Your network guys should have a suitable tool.

I just downloaded the NetworkDiscovery tool, unfortunately it doesn't
show any devices. I requested the MAC address from Epiphan, but this
may take a while.

For power supply, I'm using a Intellinet PoE injector (Model 524179 -
found
here:

Are there any known issues regarding this injector?

You're welcome.

You can also upgrade the firmware to the latest (stable) version
using the
link below, once you login to the device.

Thanks for the quick reply! I used a Mac, but didn't even know there
is a tool for discovering the device. I'll try it on Monday using a
regular Windows machine.

Have a nice weekend!

I just had the same issue a few days back they are all sorted now
thanks to Greg's advice.

Have you used this tool to find it :
http://www.epiphan.com/products/vga2ethernet/NetworkDiscovery.exe

The Epiphan page only has basic info :
http://www.epiphan.com/products/other-applications/matterhorn/

Might be worth having a look at a talk given by Greg at the
Unconference 2012.

Hope that helps. I'm a "newbie" too...

All the best.

*Subject:* [Matterhorn-users] Matterhorn Capture Device - Setup

Dear Matterhorn users,

we recently bought an Epiphan Matterhorn Capture Device and we
would love to do the setup and get it running. However, we did not
find any documentation on how to do this for this device.
In order to just test the webinterface, we connected it to a PoE
injector and a switch. A pc was connected to the switch as well.
Unfortunately, we could not reach the webinterface
using http://my_ecd/admin.

Any advice on how to do the very basic setup is appreciated.

Best wishes,
Tilo
