Are you talking about a text-mode install?  I've always used the text-mode installer 
for YDL.  Other than using the arrow keys, space, and enter to select stuff instead of 
the mouse, it's the same deal.  It shouldn't be a problem to use.  

Or are you talking about a text login prompt?  That's what I do.  When I want the GUI, 
I just startx from the shell.  I've been using X just fine.
