Hi Michele, I have fixed a trivial bug in the qt_embedding example for pyside, https://github.com/enthought/mayavi/commit/1dd3dba27a522b662c264cc48275a346d461461c but I don't thing that this is what you were seeing, as it seems that you were having problems with pyqt.
With pyqt, I cannot reproduce any problem on the qt_embedding example with the development version of Mayavi. Can you confirm that you are having problems with the development version of ETS (i.e. installing all packages from source, as detailed on http://github.enthought.com/mayavi/mayavi/installation.html#the-bleeding-edge-git I'll have a look at your other problem soon.
