Alan,

You might have overlooked the important detail in my original post. I have been
asking about 'console' or tty mode (where you get with Ctrl+Alt+Fn{1-6}, not
within the X windows.

When after major dist upgrade my nvidia GPU driver stopped working i tried to
find out the reason and other things were broken too, without having an X.

This situation is not new to me - i encounter this kind of sh* with nvidia
cards for 10+ years now. But the cheap replicas are simply the most economic,
and i used to buy them again and again ...

So i start getting things fixed on console. Like, recompiling different
nvidia/tesla versions, trying to find why initramfs of newer kernel versions
(of the right arch ofc) - originals from the Debian repo ! - are broken with
modules of the various nvidia flavors i tried .... and many more things.
And it spares a lot of time to be able to just work on the 6 parallel tty that
we have in console mode.

I think all graphical terminals offer ways to increase font size. For terminal
use tililx which is gtk3 and has comfortable configuration options in a
preferences menu; and different profiles. Before i used roxterm, comparable.
And ofc there are several ways to increase fonts even in good old xterm :D

However, if you are in console and no X and you can't read *anything* except
you poke your nose directly against the monitor glass and your nose follows the
words one by one ... then you are screwed !

So i wanted to solve this problem not only for now, but find out ways to deal
with the situation also in the future, and on any kind of (Unix) machine.

I hope you understand my kind of rare problem a little better now.
