Here is a source for "hard media" player as a DVD option.
http://www.signagedigital.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=39&Itemid=70
MPG/Video playback: Supports VOB, MPG 1, MPG 2, and MPG 4(AVI) playback

Audio playback: Supports MP3 playback

Graphic displays: Supports JPEG for digital signs

I have not used this sort of player but have seen a few traveling exhibits
that use this sort of technology,
In process of ordering one for a project,, will give an update on how well
it works,, but seems like you
need hard answers now,, hope this helps to some extent.
