Flickr is a great tool!! As long as you do not over compress your files
into the jpg format you should have little problem with the images you
want to share (SHARE not archive). The max upload for a single file is
shown on the Flickr site to be 10MB (my uploadr application is telling
me 5MB). The file here
(http://farm1.static.flickr.com/155/428315690_fbd06a8dff_o.jpg) is an
8bit, 4500x6700 pixel (15x20 at 300ppi)image compressed with a 10
quality setting into a jpg format (a 5MB file) shot with our digital
back on a 4x5 camera. As long as the person using the image does not
have to do any further editing of the image they should have plenty to
work with, especially for a brochure or museum magazine (a catalog might
be pushing it but give it a shot if your up for it). If you don't have
a system in place or if you're a smaller museum with limited resources I
wouldn't see a reason not to use it. Especially with the privacy
setting you can apply. One other thing. Flickr touts themselves as a
PHOTO sharing website. I have seen them take down shots of artwork even
though it has been photographed.

Though I use fickr for personal (family photos blogging etc ) IMHO I
have not used it for work storage or sharing,, I do think you can lock
down files from general viewing.(good point) But I think since flickr
whacks down the size of photo files to match their specs,, I think they
would not be good for press.
