Can anyone suggest viable alternates to GCI's Virtual Collections software? We
are on a version that is to or three updates old

A few important criteria:

1. We use the software for both Artefact collections management and also
Archives management (so it needs to be adaptable to both somewhat diverse uses)

2. These aren't huge collections, so we don't need mega (usually high priced)
software for hundreds of thousands of objects. But it does need to be
sophisticated enough to deal with more than a couple of hundred objects.

3. Yes, price is an issue... $10,000 is way too much - $1,000 may be doable

4. And here's the crunch - it needs to work on a Mac system... (which cuts out
a lot of potential software options)

Finally - is anyone using the latest version of Virtual Collections? How do you
find it now? (I believe they still haven't incorporated metadata options?). If
it has improved somewhat over the course of the last couple of versions, it
might be simpler to just stick with it. But trying to get a trial version
and/or information out of GCI is a bit like getting blood out of a stone,
especially as they have no regional rep in Western Canada any more.

Many Thanks
