Remember... you don't _need_ End Search with the 702. Keep saying it,
over and over... and then don't use a Sony or else you'll record over
something important :-)
As for the record button, the funny thing is that in the manual there is
a section that says something to the effect of "Note: the record button
does not light up." <grin> So you know this is a common assumption.

I've mentioned this before, but I _much_ prefer analog recording on my
girlfriend's 702 over my MZR-50. The manual record level, synchro
recording, and easier track editing make it great for recording from tape
or mic.
