Hi guys,
I'm back and with new kit including a new motherboard, CPU, video
and soundcard. But its the soundcard I'll bother you with tonight.
It's (as the Subject field suggests) the Creative SB Live Player 1024.
I can absolutely confirm that as well as an on-board SPDIF output
it does *definitely* have the connections for a digital I/O daughter
board. No functionality is lost.
Now all I have to do is move it from IRQ12 to IRQ5. Oh the fun of
PCs never ends:-) Its a f***ing PCI PnP card so I cant disable PnP
and select things myself. Looks like a hairy route into the M/bd BIOS
PCI setup... I'm scared! Earlier today I rendered my PC unusable
thanks to telling EMM386 to take A000-A7FF. I KNOW I was stupid
but it still took a lot of time to sort it out.
Now I wanna play with adding F000-F7FF, having already managed
to reliably maintain B000-B7FF and C800-EFFF. Apologies for
going further off-topic but I'm an optimisation freak and unless DOS
has 255 files, plenty of FCBSs, max number of buffers, virtual drives,
etc I'm not a happy bunny. Oh yeah, I want a 64K page frame for
EMS emulated memory. I want every scrap of UMBs I can grab
safely. And if the last two paragraphs sound like garbage pls ignore
this email.
Cheers,
