rlhamil has pointed out an interesting possibility here.  The DocBookWiki 
project seems to solve several of the problems here:  it has a way to 
round-trip from XML <-> Wiki (automatically to/from a repository!), it has a 
couple of ways to edit (although the Wiki markup seems to be just as obsure as 
ever, +5 points for XML in this case), it supports multiple translations of a 
single document (a big plus), and it seems to be able to take care of various 
conversions  (-->PDF, for example) in an automated way .

On the down side, it seems a little sluggish, and it's not nearly as polished 
as something like Confluence.

Could you take a look at this one, and see what you think?  Would it solve the 
problems you have been mentioning with Wikification?

should see the feature info:
