UDI is a pretty comprehensive set of Wizard pages that run *during* a SCCM
Task Sequence. My view is that it provides some "Self Service" features to
an OS deployment within SCCM. However if you have a well-defined (fully
automated) environment, sticking with SCCM+ZTI should be fine.

sorry to hijack, but a quick question for everyone.... so UDI is only UDI
when the user can customize? or is the term ambiguous?

My comprehension is this:

* We have an SCCM 2012 environment
* We have deployed a fully automated task sequence to all of our
Windows machines (VM, Laptop, Desktop, etc)
* The user can click to reimage their PC whenever they like in SW
Center, but the only prompt is to confirm they want to "install operating
system"

I believe that this is "User Driven"

am i right? or wrong? or is it a grey area?

Your question is poorly formatted.

UDI ships within MDT.

UDI runs on top of SCCM.

You cannot run UDI without SCCM.

Running UDI without SCCM is Litetouch, and you can't do that (Steven is
wrong).

So, can I use or not UDI only with MDT? :)

Don't worry I was too for a long time. Niehaus set me straight at TechEd in
about 5 minutes.

I'm getting confused now. I've definitely used UDI for LIteTouch installs
using MDT-only before.

UDI is part of MDT, so no, you really can't use it without MDT. And it
works only in conjunction with ConfigMgr, so you need that too.

Lite Touch is also part of MDT, designed to be used without ConfigMgr. It
provides its own wizard framework.

Thanks,
