I think the potential is there - with some work - to use rollbacks ("Reset Your
PC" or "Refresh Your PC" ) instead of reimaging as a solution on a lot of
cases. Reimaging will have a place, but for Help Desk solutions in
troubleshooting client problems, rollback makes much more sense. Think
snapshots on a virtual machine. Maybe combining something like CloudVolumes
into a physical desktop environment. In our situation, the real value is in not
sending an image across the WAN or LAN.

* New .esd file format for "push-button reset images" allows image to
consume less space compared to .wim.
Regarding data - I may be unique. We centralized all data for 40,000 users last
year. If we have to reimage, the offline files cache is slowly repopulated.

Seesm like MS is heading towards a model where we don't deploy the actual OS
anymore. With Windows 10 and beyond the OS will be there and we will just
configure it.

There was a TEE session that covered this at a high level:

The only real major change is that they will support in place upgrades within
ConfigMgr to Win 10 and have a task sequence type for this now. MDT is not
going away anytime soon although they didn't give any real details.

Hey Everyone,
Has anyone heard what MS plans to use for deploying Windows 10?
Will there be more emphasis on VHDs ?
What changes will Windows 10 bring to deployment scenarios ?
Just random thought really
John
