Have you tried using Temporary Location? Initially, leave the patient in the old location, and put the patient in temporary location of ICU. This way, the nurse on the old floor has the same CDS's they are used to, and the ICU staff have access to enter orders, look up results, etc. And... results will print to ICU. After the floor nurse has finished their work, go ahead and transfer the patient to ICU, and remove the temp location. If the floor nurse then realizes they missed something, you can put the patient back in temp location of the old floor while the nurse finishes up. This doesn't usually need to occur. We recently changed our MIS user dictionary page 3 for most inpatient nursing staff to restrict by location of the machine. This has also presented a problem for transfers to the ICU following a code or change in condition. I have been tasked with finding out if there is any workaround for documentation after a patient has transferred to another location. Currently, the nurse from the prior unit has to go to ICU to document on the patient once they have transferred over to ICU. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. We have no intentions of changing the MIS dictionary setup back to not restricting by location. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had to deal with this issue and if you have anything in place that might help. Thanks. Mark H.
