We have been using the OR Module for scheduling, charting and charges since March 1999. There are many advantages and disadvantages but I want you to know some of the nurses complain about the computer charting but when the computer goes down (which isn't often), they get really upset as it really is much easier on the computer. One thing that I like about it is that we have captured a lot of charges with this system. Also, it seemed like it was causing problems at first until we realized that what it was doing was pointing out problems that we didn't know existed. We can go all the way back to 1999 and find out information at our desk top. The reports are great. I would suggest that if you went this way, that any nurses that are not computer literate should have some classes just on computer first. The biggest problem that we encountered was with those who were afraid of computers. I love the look-ups as much information is available just by using the look-up function key a! nd choosing a number. The information just falls in. Also, they have canned text, where you can program routine comments and using the "get" function key, have it all typed for you by the computer. You do need extra help in the OR rooms for the nurses when they start as there is a learning curve and they can not circulate as efficiently as they usually do, when they are just starting on the computer. Also, even after the module is built, you need someone to maintain it, troubleshoot and teach. Our hospital originally let the nurse that built the system go and we really struggled for some time until we got an OR director who recognized the importance of having someone responsible. That is probably more information than you were looking for but if you have anymore questions, I would be happy to answer them, Gayle -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Castillo, Cristina Sent: Thursday, April 27, 2006 7:51 AM To: [email protected]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [MEDITECH-L] OR Management All messages should be posted in plain text. The meditech-l web site is MTUsers.com ====================================== I would like to get feedbacks (good and bad) for those who are using the OR Management. Where do you use it for (ie. Scheduling, Charges Clinical, Documentation)? For clinical documentation, what is the ease of use? Is it like the NUR documentation where it can be time-consuming and cumbersome? Is it user-friendly? We are a Magic 5.4 150+ bed facility. Thanks in advance for your input. Cristina G. Castillo, BSN, RN Manager, Clinical Informatics Pacific Alliance Medical Center 531 W.
