The modules of which you speak are designed to be mouse driven, and work that way. The older modules that have had "desktop" interfaces superimposed on them, are not. Icons and buttons as interfaces are fine - it is the cascading menus that are difficult to use, and the way the functionality is designed, it is not possible to stick with the mouse - you have to click on something, then type something in, then click on something. Efficiency and ease of use should be the primary concern, and the cascading menus do not seem to promote either of those goals, at least in my opinion. Take (PCM) Physician Desktop, Physician Documentation, Clinical Review, and Order Management, for example, you cannot use the keyboard for much of the navigation. The meditech-l web site is MTUsers.com ====================================== The issue with using the desktop menus for users is that they now must become mouse proficient. That may be a hurdle for some users and if you are using laptops with a small mouse pad it can increase that level of difficulty. To me there should be a reason for changes we make. If users have been navigating their menus fine without the mouse, what is the reason you give the users for changing up their whole navigation structure? Now, in some instances there might be a good reason to change to the desktop menus. But, I think that decision should be made because the benefits clearly out weight the detractions - not simply because Meditech can do it. If you keep the menus the same, users will only have the color difference to contend with. If you have attributes or NPR reports that print to screen you may need to adjust them to work with NUI because the row/column stuff is different.
