The problem is that the people who should answer the questions in the forums likely aren't reading the forums. Simple example - I spent 17 hours in airplanes over the last 48 hours. It's easy enough to deal with email - download, respond, send out the next time you're connected. Forums? Not so much. Same goes for search, easy notification, all that. Email is just much easier FOR ME to deal with. So unless there is a bidirectional forum<->email gateway... I think that we will have a semi-disconnected community. > For the meta-project I'm coordinating [1] I had been using both, but > relying on the forum as the default. Which is why we all agreed that we wanted the forums - a good share of the people seem to prefer them. > So maybe there needs to be a policy for MeeGo official activity (I > would prefer the forums but that's just how I roll) but then for > community initiatives let us work out what works best on a case by > case basis? Which turns this proposal into a problem. If the 'official' medium is one or the other, you are losing the other half of your community. This may be the naive answer, but I still think we need a bi-directional gateway.
