David yep go for it change the whole lot the only downer is that you MUST
change sumps and oil pickup other wise it wont fit L18's in Stanzas are
a good cheap instant power increase .make sure L18 carby a good one

again you've been a great help, I'll do the cam tomorrow. As
for the head, I'm still confused.I got 2 replies telling
me not to use the L18 head as it'll reduce compression too much, Then your
reply tells me to use it.I might just ask this guy
how much he wants for the whole engine. Is the much of a power gain
going from an L16 to an L18?

David Use L18 head as its a better head. the reason you use no
3 cam gear hole is to take up any slack in timing chain they are set at
#2 at factory or when you putin new chain, try advancing your timing do
it a bit at a time 5 degrees or less each time you'll know when youre gone
too far as engine will ping this will help take offs.BTW dont use L18 carby
as this will screw your consumption

Peter,
I've got an "A" cam and about to put it in my L16 to give it a little bit
more bite. I've allready got a 5 speed box and a 4:3:1 diff, can you recomend
anything else I should whack on at the same time to give it some more go?
Only reason I'm asking you all this is because a while ago you told me
if I was to stick an "A" cam into my L16 I should set it at hole #3 when
putting it back in. I was just wondering if you could explain in
a little more detail what you mean by "set it at hole #3". I didn't bother
asking what you meant back when you actually wrote it because I assumed
my mate who's helping out would know what you meant, but I asked him today
and he said he had no idea he just whacks them in.
Also the guy who I bought the cam off said I can have the L18 head that
it came off for an extra $10 and I'm wondering whether the L18 head on
the L16 block would be quicker cause the head flows more or will this just
make compression too low? It's not going to see any
track work, it's only for road use, So I'm just after down low grunt for
quick take offs not top end speed for racing. What are your sugestions
for this? PS. I'm not gunna spend big bucks
on it. Big bucks on an L16 would be a waste of time. I've saved just over
half the money I need to get my SR20DET conversion done and I'm starting
to crave the power hehe so I wanna give it a bit more bang in the meantime
thanx a lot
Dave
