I'm sorry I didn't see any of your other requests on this subject. The Z block
is almost indistinguishable L block. I have a rebuilt short motor in my
garage. The head will bolt on but one of the water passages into the head is
different, you either need to block it or drill it. I don't have a spare L
series head laying around so I can't help you there. I was originally going to
put a Z18ET head on my L20B block for a cheap turbo upgrade, but I bought the
whole motor. Now to answer your question.
You need the timing chain cover, and a new timing chain as the cam is a
different height. That alright as you can cut a couple of links off the chain
to make it fit. I am sure that the Z18 is the same height as the Z20 and L20
so either of the front covers will fit. I can measure them for you if you
like. You can make the L series dizzy fit, as the Z18 turbo dizzy will be hard
to get in good condition. Or run aftermarket. You should be able to source a
Z18 or Z20 EFI intake manifold or Z18ET turbo exhaust manifold from NZ as they
are coming off the roads frequently now. The Z18 came with a T3 so another T3
will bolt straight on (as long as it has the 3 bolt intake side, not the early
RB20ET's). If the L20 is low compression 8.5:1 then it will be fine, if it has
flat tops then the valves will hit the top of the piston and you will need
flycuts for clearance as the valves are on a different angle in the Z head. It
will change your system into a crossflow EFI system. You will need other
stuff, but I assume you already know that, like EFI pumps, return lines,
filters.
