Jake,

voltage regulator - there's not much else that will cause these symptoms. Sounds
like you just got unlucky and something in the regulator ( back of the alternator
) went pop. The regulator circuit is probably rectifying the AC from the alternator
so it's raw DC, but the regulator chip itself has burnt out.

To test this - fire up the motor with the alternator disconnected and check
the volts guage. If it's back to normal then get an auto-electrician to check
out your alternator / regulator.

PS - 18V is probably not real good for your EFI computer, may burn out the regulator
in that before long as it's having to dissipate excess power as heat.
