I paid $50 for the x-member from our mates at Grand Auto, but it was the only
one out of about 10 that was better than the one I had.
Basically, the early x-members seem to have slightly higher mounting points
( relative to the rest of the suspension ) for the lower control arms. This
allows the arm to sit closer to the same angle at which it sits in a stocker
( pointing down slightly toward the wheel ), and helps maintain the front end
geometry - minimises bumpsteer. The difference is subtle, but I *think* I could
feel it through the wheel when I was done.
In a really low car this by itself won't cut the mustard, the bumpsteer spacers
would be needed, or maybe customised mounting points on the x-member ( raised
by 25mm or more ).
