Sounds like the spiel that's spewed out by the ACC on food - apparently a
lot of food has gone up by more than 10% an it's sposed to be GST free, what
a joke. LPG users are spewing as well which means 1/2 Victoria is not happy
in their V8 gas burners.
A lot of this is in the wording, a tax is not an excise and all of that so
you can still grab the smokers, beer drinkers and the engine importers and
if the ACC questions you over it you can adjust your excise to raise
revenue.
The SA Govt are charging an excise for an insurance of some type and then
the feds are collecting the GST on the lot - and the ppl aren't happy as
their crying tax on tax etc but they will lose any action as it's in the
wording also.

Guys,
I've spoken to numerous wreckers about this and the overall consensus is
that the GST has had a negligible effect on the price of second hand Jap
import gear. The problem is that the exchange rate Oz$/Yen has crashed,
resulting in quite large price increases - so any old stock should still be
affordable, but stuff imported recently will cost ya...

Shit, you could probably get a SR20 Silvia for $5k... not that I mean you
should, but the markup on imported parts in incredible...
I understood that parts should have gone down because they only attracted a
22% sales (and not the import duty of low vol imports) so they should be
maybe 5-10% cheaper in theory.
Anyone know differently? this is going from old memory..

mile but a few other calls for SR20DET + 5 speed and they looked rather
decent even SSS who I though always seem pretty expensive quoted $2800 still
a lot of money but is in the ball park with most other importers.
