Steve,
I haven't been following the thread too closely but I assume you are also
holding a "dolly" or hammer or like implement on the opposite side of the
eye that you are trying to remove the joint from as you hit it? This is
usually sufficient for even the most stubborn in my experience. Failing
that a bit of heat also does wonders.
