Again, this isn't at all personal, just an opinion !
I have no intention of wading into this argument ( says he, removing his shoes
and socks ), but some of the aftermarket strut tops seem to be affixed with
just 2 bolts. Sure, they're not for the road ( in theory ) but rallying / racing
is where the highest stresses would be placed on the suspension.
Mechanically, the strut has nowhere to go if the bolts shear anyway - the strut
will just bang about in the tower. Bad if you're driving at 100%, but if you're
doing that on the road mechanical failure is probably just as far from your
mind as oil spills, water on road, tyre failure and "geez, I might freakin'
kill someone's kid doin' this".
Also, if you have 'proper' adjustable strut-tops, it's still on your head unless
they're engineer approved, no ?
Besides - '97 excels came factory equipped with a collapsible front suspension.
