Zac,
This is a typically annoying feature of side draft carbies, to minimise this
try to keep all your linkages well lubricated and don't forget the inside of
car bits either as you'd be surprised how much resistance builds up where
the throttle rod is located to the floor.

(Back under the bonnet) Single webers typically have the throttle connection
on the firewall side of the shaft and the idle adjuster on the radiator
side. I'm sure there is good reason for this but it requires 2 springs to
return to the set idle consistently.

Richard's spring suggestion sounds like a good thing, are they readily
available.

Terry and Richard,
I initially had only one spring on it but when it was dynoed another was
added as the engine would idle at higher revs (~1500rpm) after heavy
throttle application. It would then drop to normal idle after a quick 'tap'
of the accelerator.

I think the problem is something to do with the cable setup, my car was a
guinea pig for it and I don't think it's perfect! I will have a look at a S1
Blueturd throttle pedal soon and suss out whether I can adapt it to my
current cable/linkage. All my friends complain that my accelerator is *so*
heavy.

Zac,
You are correct, S1 Bluebird is well used for cable throttle. It is typical
that 1 x 45 has two return springs and sometimes they are even on opposing
sides when a stock bar linkage is used. If your linkage is too hard reduce
the spring tension on the firewall side as it only needs to be about 1/2 the
pull of the other side.

regards,

terry

I thought Bluebird pedal was the go for a cable throttle?
Mine (single weber) runs a cable off the original lever next to the booster,
and then a custom mount at the weber end. I don't like it very much, it's
very heavy. has two return springs on it.

I would suggest having a look around your nearest pick apart. The 240K has a
cable operated accelerator which may work. I will be looking into this in
the near future for setup of a single 45mm webber. I will let you know how I
go.

I was just wondering what the best way is to hook up a set off twin =
webbers to the throttle on the floor of the car. At present the old man =
has adapted the standard link on the firewall ( the bit under the washer =
motor that links to the original carby set-up) to the webber throttle =
rail that opens up the throttle on the webbers. While this is a neat =
and tidy set-up it seems that this doesn't supply enough leverage thus =
the carby butterflies don't open up completly (Probably about 85-90% =
which is probably a good thing for a lead-footed 18 year old)

Adjust this to open the butterflies fully means a higher idle. =
Basically more leaverage is required, either from the pedal set-up or =
replacing the whole shebang with a throttle cable set-up instead of =
leavers and connecting bars. What is the best and easiest solution? =
(sorry about the length)
