Christie,

Your SR shouldn't really have any starting hassles first up in the morning.
They generally start up and run a quite a high (annoying) idle - 1800rpm or
so. (I'm assuming here that you are running the factory EFI computer). They
have a thermostatically controlled valve under the inlet manifold that gives
the engine heaps more air to up the idle until things warm up a bit. They
are dodgey bi-metallic things that have coolant going through them and they
simply allow more air to pass through a valve until the coolant warms up and
then they slowly close. I suspect yours is just sticking. Might just have to
remove it and check it out. Bit of a bugger of a job due to the location of
the assembly.

There are also other fast idle control valves and stuff all in the same
assembly - the other valves are controlled by the ECU.

Subject: Morning Start - SR20DET

Hi all,

Anyone experience difficulty in starting their
SR20DET in the morning? Its only that first
start and after that first start, the motor
starts and go on every first crank.

Its really bothering me. My last CA18DET has
a cold start device that automatically lets
more air in to induce a richer mixture. I dunno
about the SR20DET, anyone can help me on this!!

Thanks heaps!!

Christie....
