Hey Chris,
I've got a 1983 white SSS Stanza which has had various work done
to it over the years. In my poorer student days I couldn't afford to go too
crazy so I ripped off the original carbie and bolted on a webber 32/36 and
stage 1 cam. It made a significant difference, especially up high. I also
installed a series II Bluebird dizzy which also improved torque down low.
Extractors came next and some extra usable revs appeared up top. The other
way I could have gone (cheaper too) is to bolt in an imported engine. I
didn't stop there either, I did a WOLF EFI conversion on the original L16
which made a phenomenal difference everywhere in the rev range. She how revs
happily up to 6750 rpm while still making heaps of power. I think I may have
been better off throwing in an imported twin cam engine in it though since
the technological difference between the two is huge. It all comes down to
how much money you want to spend (or who you know) but keep on asking around
until you start hearing things that sound possible to you.(and within your
budget)

George
