Mick,
I learnt something new today about petrol caps. There is no way that you can
fit a safety cap to the older style of vehicle (just like a lead free cap is
different again) that doesn't have the pressurised tank as the filler is
different and the caps are not interchangeable. To identify a safety cap -
they have a valve in them that's designed to blow if the purge valve fails
in the engine bay so your tank doesn't collapse. The safety cap is much
smaller than the type fitted to the Aussie 510. I can't say I've ever heard
of anyone have a tank collapse under pressure or hoses blown off so the
purge valves must be very reliable on the 27a vehicles.
regards
Terry

No valve on my strut tower and not much on the weber manifold as well!! hehe
Thats a good thing to check. i hadn't thought of the cap being vented but it
makes sense.. Strange that this is how i got the car from peter and he
raced it for years.. incidentally the cap is as supplied cos it is attached
by wire to the body so it can't be lost hehe
By the way how do i recognise a vented cap and what other models have one?
cheers
Mick
