Tom,
I would recomend a Bosch electronic dizzy as used in some series 2 bluebirds. I use one in my L20b turbo. I picked up a good one for $20 out of a wreck. Use a suitable Bosch T-coil, $45 new. Have it regraphed to suit your application. I paid $50 to have mine done to suit turbo application by Bob Goddard at Turbo Wise in Perth. I've run as high as 25 psi without the candle being blown out and revs to over 7000 rpm without any problems. And I havn't had to change the points in 40,000 miles. Like Mel said it makes me worry about my car too..... and like 1600boy I got a $450 alarm but its true about not being able to stop a determined thief.... you can only slow em down, or annoy the hell outta them with 5 kill switches ;) Anyway I was just wondering if there are any benefits in converting the ignition system in my 1600 to an electric setup (this is the kit which I've seen around http://www.cranecams.com/ignition1/7003000.htm) it uses the distributor housing and an optical sensor of some kind to get a signal then the computer works out when to fire. The 'XR-700' ($220) produces a similar spark to a normal dizzy but the 'XR-3000' ($260) is supposedly a lot more powerful (30kV) but you need to shell out another $100 for a new coil. Does anybody have any comments? Worth spending $380 on? I have some dyno charts with a stock 1200 ute producing 33hp at the wheels compared with 26hp before... but never having to touch the distributor again sounds like incentive enough to me hehe Thanks - Tom --membersozdat------------------------------------------------------- OZDAT Mailing List Please Note:- Send (un)subscribe requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send submissions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] No unauthorised redistribution of this email http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/index.htm http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/listindex.html http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
