Thomas,
Trev has posted a good rundown on the Japanese N13 radiator and I'll put a
few words down on the Australian model N13 Pulsar crossflow alloy radiator
which is the popular choice for us FJ ppl. The one we use (PN NIS966PA) has
the hoses reversed and that's why it's so suitable for a FJ, also on this
version the standard size hoses fit which is a bonus. Most of these are
suitable for either auto or manual so if you see one and it's got the auto
fittings don't worry - all aftermarket (Natrad etc) are like this with plugs
in the outlets but the OEM Nissan ones are either for manual or auto.
You can use either radiator with a L series, the top hose is cut up from two
standard 510 hoses and a hose joiner from a radiator joint is required. I
just forget how the bottom hose is fabricated, I've got it in my technical
notes here somewhere, Wardy did it before his FJ went in and it was OK, and
if he's reading may be able to post the info before I can find it.
To fit the N13 into a 510 you undo the top bracket and reverse it and then
it easily attached to the bonnet x bracket. You have to drill two holes in
the body to locate the dowels at the bottom of the radiator and for a fan I
used a 10" Davis Craig that very rarely comes on, but for a L engine you
could have a larger blow thru but I believe that a 10" fan on suck is heaps
better than a 12-14" on blow anyway. You can't fit anything bigger on the
suck side with a L engine using the Aussie N13 radiator either as the WP is
not in a good place.
The new price for the N13 is ~$300 and I've seen good ones in good nick at
the UPulls from $100-$150, both prices without fans.

Thomas,
Yes I have one in my 1600. I believe there are two types mine is from an
auto. It has the top hose on the passenger side and the bottom hose on the
drivers side. Don't buy the twin thermo fan setup as I did and waste $50 as
they don't fit with an L series. I run a Fiat X19? fan that is mounted in
front. Its real small but blows a lot of air. Finding hoses is the worst
part. The datsun has large fittings on the motor and the rad has small ones.
What i did was keep the original N13 rad hoses and cut them of flush on the
rad pipes. I then grabbed a 72 corona?? hose for the top, cut it in two and
used a piece of pipe between. For the bottom I used one of those flexable
universal jobs. I think I used some bycicle tube on the bottom engine hose
as it seamed loose. The rest is easy, drill two big holes for the bottom
rubber bits to mount in and make up some top mounts.
Regards
Trev

Anyone on the list put a radiator from an N13 pulsar in a datsun 1600? I
need to know if this radiator will fit in my 1600 before I go out and pick
one up from a wrecker. Are they about the right size, do they fit easily?
Thomas.
