If you're after improved drivability and ecconomy, the standard system
should improve low down/mid range torque and possibly some more power up
top. I fitted an L series EFI manifold to my L16 however I replaced the
throttle body to 50mm, removed anything to do with anti-pollution and fitted
an aftermarket WOLF3D ECU. This was definitely a costlier solution, however,
it was far easier to setup since I had instructions and wiring diagrams. 15
minutes of tuning allowed me to drive the car around the block and after
dyno-ing, an extra 20kW of power at the rear wheels was acieved at around
6750rpm with mild cam and extractors.
What price is being offerred? I payed $150 for a complete manifold without
loom, computer, airflow meter and air filter housing.
As far as fitting goes, you'll also need to tap 2 new holes in the head
where the EFI manifold bolt holes are. Don't be lulled into a sense of false
security...it's alot of work since you'll need a high pressure fuel system
and surge tank configuration as well. In retrosopect, I should have gone for
a newer 16valve engine since I would have spent similar money for much more
power. But hey, I've learnt heaps out of it and knowledge is a powerful
thing!
