paint question

Hi guys,   i have just begun priming my 16 and i have come across a pretty annoying problem.   for example, i rubbed back the boot lid and it looked great, now that i have primed it, it looks terrible. The paint has gone on nicely, it's just that every tiny imperfection is now sticking out like a sore thumb.
