Andrew,
Indeed the Aussie production 1600 was blessed with the "Prince of Darkness"
internally regulated alternator towards the end of the model run ('72 for
sure but could have started sometime in '71). Easy to convert to a Bosch IR
except an Earth has to be added from the Alternator body to the harness
connector on the drivers side strut tower behind the stock battery location.
The Lucas only has a big White/Red wire that goes to the Batt connector and
a much smaller Yellow wire that goes to the Ind connector (they could be a
push on - it's been a while).
regards
Terry

Subject: alternator
hi all
i am in the process of installing everything from a working but
ordinary 1600 into my new shell, including loom etc. i thought this
"parts" car was standard but there seems to be no regulator for the
alternator.
so i thought perhaps this had been swapped for an internally
regulated bosch, but found it was a lucas. did lucas make interally
regulated alternators, or has this alternator been installed
incorrectly? this lucas alternator has only 2 wires connected to it. i
would like to know where this alternator came and if it is suitable
how it should be wired into a 1600, so I can check it has been
done correctly so there is no risk putting it in my newly restored
shell.
can anyone help me please with answers?
thanks guys
andrew
