David,
Thanks for the update. I've been considering building a Z22 based motor but
I'm concerned that I'll lose the top end due to the reduced rod/stroke and
bore/stroke ratios. I like torquey motors as much as the next guy but my
motor needs to have strength above 5000rpm. If you get any dyno charts made
up I'd be most interested to see the power and torque curves when a free
flowing induction system is used (as I'm sure everybody else would be too!).
What type of EFI system are you going to be running it with?
Cheers
- Tom

Tom,
the LZ24 is going well. It's done 700 miles now - almost run in. Although I
have a custom EFI to fit, I wanted to run it in using a carb, so that it did
not get over-revved at the dyno shop. I understand that it wont rev out as
fast as a standard stroke engine, but the torque should compensate.
I used a z24 crank and 89mm pistons (re-sleived)with l20 rods. The l20 rods
have been modified to suit full floating pistons, and so a bearing has been
inserted at the small end of the rod. When this was done, the bearing was
inserted lower than standard height, efectivley decreasing the rod length by
a
couple of mm. Also, pergeot v6 pistons were sourced and the dome machined
off
the top to produce a 10.4 cr with a 2mm copper head gasket and re-shaped
combustion chambers. To compensate for the inability to rev out as fast as
usual, I lightened the flywheel and used the full floating pstons.
Since I'm using a bluebird carb on an old 180b manifold, (very small port
diameter relative to the head) the engine struggles to get enough fuel to
breath properly. That said, the engine is very strong, and has already
broken
2 diffs!
Regards,
David Thompson.

David,
If you're still about, hows the LZ24 going? I'm keen to find out how it
goes and how much it revs out!
