James,
Only the DR30 engine was available only with factory i/c although I've seen
up to 9 psi run on these engines without an i/c fitted. The DR30 i/c is a
lunchbox but even so it's surprising effective up to around 9-10 psi. I
chose that engine as it had a much better potential for coping with moderate
boost (up to 1 bar) when fitted with a Cordia or Supra i/c. It has a better
turbo stock, problem is the stock exhaust manifold is further rearward and
is a bit of a pain to fit on a 1600. The lower C/R engine is out of the S12
but the bigger exhaust housing is off the DR30. I've seen the other way
round done on a 1600 quite a few times as it's an easier fit on a manual
body. The factory inlet manifold is basically the same on either turbo
engine afaik, there are a couple of varieties on the NA engines though.
regards
Terry

That's the question... Skyline or Gazelle.... though Custom
inlet might be an option down the track a bit...
But right now I want to get the best base engine... and
I have found I can get either one... So which is the best?
Also were both of those available in Intercooled or non
intercooled versions from the Factory? or was it just the
gazelle one??
... Cause I want the non intercooled version for the
7:5 to 1 comp ratio and the bigger Exhaust housing on the
turbo...
Any ideas?
Regards
James
