Ryan,
In theory you should be able to run +2 degrees more with Optimax than with
LRP but it would seem only at the same altitude. If like me you live a
couple of thousand feet above sea level the only problem is when you go down
town to sea level. I was in Sydney yesterday and detonated Optimax for the
first time (I was running +2 degrees over what I run on LRP) much to my
surprise but back home today no problems. Also webers seem to run a bit
richer at the same idle setting on Optimax than they do on LRP. I only
realised this today as when I stopped for the first time in Sydney my idle
was up about 300 rpm - I just lowered the idle stop a tad and kept going and
it was fine all day. Anyway when just about at home I got a red light and it
nearly stalled which got me thinking that the idle mixture must of been the
problem. I turned the mixture screws in a third of a turn tonight and it's
purring like a kitten and has come up again to the idle speed that I set in
Sydney. I wonder what it's going to be like next time I'm a sea level.
LRP(S) seemed to be OK in my engine in hot weather but it doesn't do the
business too well in winter, so I'm going to run Optimax. I'm told the BP
version is not as good, but on the other hand some ppl say it's the same
thing but everyone agrees that the Ampol Gold is crap.
regards
Terry (never thought I'd be trying to find Shell stations again after the
half lead saga)

Thanks Terry,
I did have it running on 16 deg but went back to 14 as I was running on LRP
or
LRPS as I like to call it (lead replacement s!@t). Anyhows basically since
I
changed it I have only run Optimax and never herd detonation. I did when it
was
on 16 with LRP in 5th gear going up a hill with it labering badly about 30
miles
to check for pinging and it did but only when really laboring with LRP
haven't
hered it on optimax allthough she is a noisy beast.
Ryan
