        Just need some opinions on my little disaster that I call a 1600.

Last week I took it over the pits to change my rego to ACT(big mistake).  
This ended in heart ache for me it failed and failed in the bad and 
expensive way.  I need to get a full engineering certificate for all 
modifications.  I've only got a L18 with disc brake front end.

It's the brakes that have added to the mass of frustration over this little 
blue s#&t box! Firstly I bought it with a dodgy air box (its on straight 
gas) it back fired and screws(from the dodgy air box went shooting into the 
engine stuffed my worked L18, take to dodgy mechanics who didn't tell me my 
once round flat top piston was now oval shaped, they didn't fix charge $1700 
put new mixers car off road for 2 months, still run like shit, later screw 
in engine did its work engine not go, take to another garage (much nicer) 
put new engine in found brakes badly worn, cost $3500 (not so nice now) 
(only owned car for 5 months!!) car run worse than ever!.  later on take to 
new garage get tuned fix dodgy set up $600 this is starting to hurt!.

now rego people want me to get engineering certificate ($300?) new front 
discs(ones on now are from a 5 stud patten car!!!$???) vent battery 
outside(its in boot(how??).

sorry just had to get that off my chest.

now i'm thinking its going to cost me about $1000(some other stuff too) to 
get it road worthy and its still going to get beaten by everything bar popey 
in his mazda bubble.

so why not get a new engine!!

(so i can eat my mates falcons) who give me crap about my dato!!

one with some credentials three options
1.SR20/FJ20/CA18 turbo-would involve converting back to petrol
2.I have a L20 can get rebuilt possibly turbo - don't know what shape its in
3.Keep old crappy mazda-bubble-beating-on-a-good-day shit box

Questions (if you got this far!!)

what kind of breaking power required with SR conversion (disc size rear 
drums?)

how much does it cost to get stuff for petrol conversion?? tank etc??

If I said I was prepared to spend between $3000-$6000 with the only 
condition being- it beats a falcon- which would be the best option??

Finally (tanks for your patience) what price would each of them cost and 
what else needs doing other than brakes (diff fine)??

PS i've got 12 months NSW rego again but intend to convert by next year
