the theory behind horizontally opposed configuration (boxer) is that the cycling direction of gravity on reciprocating parts is eliminated (when cylinders arent horizontal gravity 'helps' in a downward stroke, 'doesnt help' in an upward stroke etc, an effect which is eliminated in a boxer)
