Title: RE: Z18 questions

Retard on boost can be done by something which looks like a std vacuum advance canister but it goes both ways.  If you want to change the dizzy you will need to get it regraphed, which means to change the weights for the mechanical advance and the limits.  But if you are running decent amount of boost I would recommend an aftermarket ignition computer or upgrade the wolf 2D to one that can handle ignition too.  176HP at the wheels is a pretty good Z18ET, but if it not well built then you will be breaking piston rings allthe time.  Any changes made to a turbo car in the form of ignition timing, boost, fuel, intercooler should be checked on a Dyno (if you have not way of checking yourself) to see if detonation is present.  Otherwise you will driving around with a temporary engine.

I think the std T3 that came with my Z18 had Garret AR .48 on it too.  I think it is hard to tell the difference by looking at the intake and exhaust housings.  But the centre cassette is definately larger for the T3's.

thanks for all the info adam, been a great help
yeah my point about the dyno run wasn't really questioning the power at wheels, it was the amount of boost he ran to achieve it

yes it is an optical style electronic ignition
I believe he got it from a later model nissan passenger van of some kind, just wasn't sure about how to tune it
will I have to get it modified to retard the timing under boost?
the car was dyno tuned before the ignition went in, would it be a good idea for me to get the car tuned again now the ignition is in?

as for the turbo, it still has me confused, my past 2 cars have had T25's and my current pulsar had one for a while too before I replaced it with the T28, I'm like 99% sure this is a T25G, it has the "Garret AR.48" stamped on the compressor housing. The exhaust manifold definately isn't a custom job it still has nissan factory stamping on it.
