Adam,
There
are a lot of factors that determine what size sway bar (or other components)
should be fitted and these factors will vary considerably from car to car.
Things like wheels (size, offset etc), weight bias, suspension settings etc.
make such a difference even for street cars. I have found with suspension tuning
that selecting the right bar(s) is about the last thing to setup. The general
all round bar that will suit most L powered 1600's is 22mm which is 3mm above
stock. For FJ/SR I'd recommend starting with a 24mm bar if you run the normal 6"
rims (195/60 or bigger) or for a smaller size wheels/tyres then the 22mm will
generally work better. If you run a stiffer front bar without the ability
to adjust the spring/shock rates (i.e. coil overs & shocks etc) you'll
find a tendency to induce massive amounts of understeer (push) regardless of
which engine you choose.
regards
Terry

Subject: Sway Bar and Strut brace.I am upgrading my suspension. What size sway bar should I aim for with a 2" lowered car with stiffer shocks and springs. This is a street car. And how much should I pay? Also does a front strut brace make much difference for normal street driving?
