I am not a rotor fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I do give credit
where credit is due.

Rotors can be made to go very hard at a reasonable cost, both in naturally
aspirated and turbo forms, the biggest draw back for me is the noise factor
and that is why I would never want one on the street. As a race car engine
though, they are very hard to beat in terms of performance per dollar. This
is why you see so many cars inc escorts, corollas, datsuns being powered by
rotors in sports sedans. Lets face it, they put out big horsepower and weigh
very little (good for car balance). I race with guys how are running RX-7's
(Series 1,2 &3) and guys in RX3's who are punching out over 300bhp from
peripheral ported 12a's and bridgeported 13b's. These cars constantly beat
big horsepower commodores and Torana's (500bhp+) at horsepower circuits such
as Eastern Creek and Phillip Island.

As I said I'm not a rotor fan (I run an FJ20DE) but they are a competitive,
but noisy, option.

But for god's sake, don't wreck a 1600 with one. Drop in an SR or FJ turbo.
For street use this would have to be a better option, wouldn't it? You may
even be able to talk to your passengers - if they are game to get in.

Just my thoughts on this quiet Tuesday afternoon.

Mark.
